It took a lot of time for us to figure out why changing habits and making lasting decisions in our life was so difficult. Looking back in time, it all draws down to the little child. Each of us possesses a little child living within each of us. A friend once had a hard time quitting smoking and the discomfort was really agonizing according to him. He endured the discomfort of the powerful urge to light a stick of cigarettes. At his weakest, he would give up. He gave up to the inner voice within him which always said ‘Go ahead and smoke- why deprive yourself of the joy you get from cigars’, ‘ life is too short, enjoy it while you can’. This is the voice that stops us from making the needed changes in our life.

This is the voice that keeps you from partaking in a healthy lifestyle that would be of great benefits to you. This is the voice that encourages you to procrastinate when handling difficult situations. It prevents you from investing in yourself, starting your own business and pursuing that dram job because you are afraid of failing. This same voice causes you to give up when things are tough. It keeps you from meeting people that actually care about you because you do not want to actually bear the stress of meeting new people.

This voice is not you speaking. It is the voice of the little child in you! It’s the little version of you when you were still a child. This is the version of you that doesn’t like discomforting or uncomfortable situations. A little child would only prefer a soothing and conducive environment. This is the child you were when you started having reasoning abilities when you tried to do something and quit because they were difficult. Nobody would blame a child for that. But now, you are all grown up, and yet, you still have the mind of a child.

Now to stop this voice, you have to note that it’s the child in you speaking. Do not listen to it. Do not succumb to that voice, do not concur to its rationalism. Break that barrier and stop that child from speaking. You can endure pain; you can endure hardship; you can look fear in the face; you too can also break your barrier and move past that limit. You can endure difficulty. You can learn to be OK with discomfort. You can face the fear.
