Worrying Point As Japanese EX-PM Shinzo Abe In Critical Condition After Being Shot During Campaign
All election campaigns have been temporarily suspended in Japan following the shooting of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe while he was campaigning in the city of Nara on July 8, 2022.
Japanese officials disclosed that former PM Abe was speaking on behalf of a fellow member of Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party when he was attacked. He was reportedly speaking from behind a traffic barrier close to a train station in Nara when he was allegedly shot twice.
He was reportedly rushed to the Nara Medical University Hospital for medical attention, and according to the current Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, he is in critical condition.
“Currently, doctors are doing everything they can. At this moment, I am hoping and praying that former PM Abe will survive this,” PM Fumio said.
In related developments following the shooting, a Japanese police spokesman has revealed that a resident of Nara City named Tetsuya Yamagami has been arrested and is being charged with the attempted murder of the former PM.
Several world leaders have since sent messages and prayers to Japan for the former PM’s health and speedy recovery. They include the United States ambassador to Japan, Rahm Emanuel, Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India, and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
A worrying point is the fact that violence seems to be becoming a prevalent norm in electoral processes worldwide, and this is an unfortunate thing. There is nothing you should ever want in this life to the point where you are willing to take someone else’s life for it!
Let us all learn to live and let live, and we will surely achieve all that God has set out for us in HIS due time.
We will bring you updates on his health as things unfold.
