Last night was truly special for me as a dual parent and as a mother. My son attended his formal Middle School graduation party ahead of the main graduation ceremony coming up next week, and watching him confidently step into another phase of life made me proud and grateful.
The assignment was simple: Make your parents and family proud. And he understood it perfectly well.
As one of the best students academically and in sports, he embraced every opportunity to learn, grow, compete, and represent his school, district, community, state, his countries, the United States 🇺🇸 and Nigeria 🇳🇬, his family, and his ancestors with excellence, discipline, and humility.
What touched my heart the most was hearing him say, “I am grateful to God, my mom, my siblings, my teachers, principals, and my friends who supported me throughout this journey.”
That alone reminded me that beyond academics and achievements, character, gratitude, and values still matter.
Before I dropped him off at the venue last night, my young king looked at me and said, “Mom, I haven’t forgotten the promise I made to you. I will be your medical doctor and your NBA player.”
And of course, I got my goodbye kiss too while serving once again as his driver, as always. Lol.
Sometimes the greatest blessings in life are not found in money, titles, power, or public applause. They are found quietly in the smiles, dreams, discipline, gratitude, and growth of our children.
To every hardworking parent out there, keep showing up, keep sacrificing, keep praying, and keep believing. One day, they too will understand the assignment.
To God alone be all the glory!
