You start the day full of enthusiasm. You expect a new piece of creative work, a new piece of ideas a new piece of explosion of your-self power. But everything seem clouded; not in the mood to work. Now you begin to ask yourself what’s wrong. You might even begin to doubt the choices you made or begin to say to your-self; “It’s like life isn’t on my side.” Funny you who’s side is life on then? Maybe mine! (Anyway don’t mind my jest.)
Now you are depressed, you feel unhealthy, you are totally down. I’ve got a question for you. – What happened to your excitement, the enthusiasm, your passion for building and creating this thing that you love?
But do you know that there are certain mistakes you have made and you are still making that’s bringing you continually down and unmotivated and if you don’t stop making them, they can bring you into a demoralized state. Demoralized? Yes Demoralized. And demoralization, never works to your advantage, it gives you a constant negative overview of your life. Let’s find out what these mistakes are;
Below are seven (51/2) mistakes you don’t know you are making which keeps you unmotivated.
1. YOUR GOAL IS NOT YOUR OWN
This is the most common mistake you don’t know you are making; many people make the mistake of trying to set goals just to have something to go after and not because they truly want to achieve it in life. A person might set a goal just because s/he saw someone doing the same, you become excited, enthusiast about this new thing, this new thing you saw, this new thing you imagined, this new thing you heard about. Boom; you set out, you begin to explore your-self power. A little difficulty comes in and everything seems clouded. Upon discovery that this is not what you want then the motivation is gone.

Carefully sit back and analyze what you really want and how you want it to look like. If it is different from what you are doing in a bit, sign out immediately, that is not your goal

Do you also make the mistake of not letting go of that goal that isn’t yours even right after realizing?
You don’t want to let go of a goal that doesn’t match yours; you still stick to it, maybe for one reason or the other; probably because of the efforts you had invested into it, it could also be to avoid shame/being mocked by friends or competitors. You are making a big time mistake

We live in a world where we see, hear and feel various ideas.
Do you make the mistake of sticking to an (unhelpful) idea; it could be because the person who gave it is one you cherish. You don’t want to disappoint the person, you don’t want the person to be vexed right? Mistake!!!
What to do;
“Stay focused, go after your dreams and keep moving toward your own goals” – LL Cool J; Your own goals. I mean your own goals.
Once you realize that a goal isn’t yours, carefully design your own goal, and swap speedily into it. Forget about the time and effort you might have invested into it. Go after your goal, go after your goals, then you can be sure of great achievements.
Also, forget about any idea that’s not helpful, no matter the relationship between you and the giver of the idea. Once it is not going to be useful, it’s not useful. Discard immediately
3. YOU LOVE MULTITASKING
When you multitask, all you think you are doing is managing time; the joy of switching from one task to the other makes you glad.
Multitasking has been shown to negatively impact memory and IQ, make it harder for you to learn new things and finally brings you into a depressed state
What to do
“If you manage your multitasking, you’ll be much more effective and motivated than if you simply hop from project to project without driving them to completion.” – Mitch Thrower.
Perhaps you cannot avoid distractions, stay clear from multitasking; instead of jumping from one task to the other, you need to strictly prioritize your task, by focusing on the things that are truly important. Not only will you be motivated to move on, you will also be more productive and finish the project sooner.

4. STRESS OR OVERWHELM
Do you make the mistake of taking yourself through vigorous stress or being overwhelmed?
Emotional overwhelm is just another term for having too much to handle at any one time. There are numerous reasons why people feel emotionally overwhelmed; that can come from taking on more commitments than you have time for, not being able to predict your own emotional state, or facing a situation you really can’t deal with effectively. Emotional overwhelm may manifest as anxiety, anger, irritability, crying, or depression. It can appear in physical form, like a fast heartbeat, tension, or sweaty palms. When you are in a state of overwhelm or frustration your motivation to keep working is hindered. The enthusiasm to finish off what you had started is greatly reduced and it will definitely stop you from working.
What to do
Break down the project into smaller units. The size and type of the project is irrelevant. To remain motivated to finish off the project, you simply have to break it down into smaller, more manageable portions By breaking the project/task into smaller units, you are able to visualize clearly where to kick start the project and the next step to take. It also gives you this bold satisfaction that the task isn’t clumsy this alone will motivate you to move onto to the next chunk or piece. But, before you move on to the next piece, be kind enough to give yourself a reward you.
Also, take breaks; if you realize that you aren’t motivated to proceed with your task, probably because the remaining piece looks tedious, I suggest you try your best to bring to a quick end the piece you are working on, and just move away from the work. Move outside, go for a chat, and chew something. Just do something which isn’t work to you, do this for a period of time.
The objective here is to take your attention away from the project. This will ease away the frustration or annoyance that you may be feeling. And when you get back to the task, you will feel more relaxed, refreshed and motivated to continue.
5. WAITING FOR THE PERFECT TIME
Morning, mid-day or night, yesterday, today or tomorrow, when is the perfect time to work?
Do you make the mistake of waiting for the perfect time to work?
You signed out from work because you are unmotivated to keep up; all you now say is “I’ll do this at the right time” This is a mistake on your path.
And the crazy thing about this mistake is justification. You justify your delay, you justify your reason for not laying hands on the work all in the name of perfect time.
What to do

This is the last mistake you need to realize you are making even right now. After reading this article to completion, some still keep on looking at this screen waiting for motivation. It sounds odd right? Yes but It’s just the truth.
Sometimes, maybe for one reason or the other, you find it hard to effectively use those tips right up there; what can you do then?
Well, you can do what I quite often do few times. I get started anyway, despite the lack of motivation within.
At first doing that task may not feel fun or interesting but it is just a small step that I need to take so it feels acceptable. The next step tends to be a bit easier and maybe even enjoyable in a bit. Move on, don’t stop; and by the step after that one the motivation is catching up with you and you are starting to have fun. Now you begin to enjoy what you really love doing.
