Yes, it happens to everyone…
Your mind tricks you into believing that there is no hope, no future, no light at the end of the tunnel. You try to think but your thoughts end up suffocating you. You scream for help but your voice is drowned by the situations that surround you..
That’s how having a tough time feels like;
My dear Mgbeke, situations sometimes slam us in the face, leaving us with such a crushing blow that it literally takes our breath away. However, it’s your choice to stay down and stop breathing or to rise up, breathe again, and throw some knockout punches back at the situation whilst making sure it surrenders..
Whenever you find yourself in a difficult situation, the first skill you need to activate is patience which can translate to the following;
The patience to not give up
The patience to not close down that business
The patience to not drop out from school
The patience to not respond without thinking
Once you build that patience, here are the 3 difficult things you need to do to get through that difficult situation;
Embrace the Situation: My dear Mgbeke, most often than not we avoid experiencing exactly where we are because we have developed a belief, based on past experiences, that it is not where we should be or want to be. But the truth is, where you are now is exactly where you need to be to get to where you want to go tomorrow. So embrace the situation, accept that it has happened and begin to think of ways to help you heal faster..
Appreciate your Qualities: Yes the situation has happened and Odogwu Mgbeke it’s time for you to begin to look at those qualities that makes you an Odogwu. Take a pen and begin to write out what you have achieved in life, the people that have been there for you, your positive experiences, your talents e.t.c… This would help you see that you are actually better than a million people out there… This would help you see that you have fought battles in the past and actually won them without a blink of an eye.. This would help you build that necessary confidence you need to stand up, breath and throw that knockout punch.
Stay Consistent with healthy habits: Staying consistent with healthy habits would mean that you need to Identify what horns your creativity and intelligent thinking.. For me it’s listening to good music or doing some exercise, for you it may be playing football, sitting out with friends or even kickboxing.. The aim is to get you at the right state of mind and balance until you develop the mental TOUGHNESS you need to completely overcome the storm.
My dear Mgbeke, because you have painstakingly read this words of wisdom here, it is a bonus tip for you, the next time you find yourself in a tough situation, try to speak to someone about it. It can be your friend, your pastor, your brother or a fellow Mgbeke. However, be careful to make sure that the person understands his/her limitations and is willing to help you secure help if the need arises… If you don’t know anyone, we are always here for you…
Now, it’s your turn…
If you’re feeling up to it, we would love to hear from YOU.
